Approaches to breast cancer treatment

Is breast cancer curable?? …………….. YES, a big YES indeed. Breast cancer can be cured (meaning the disease goes completely away and never comes back), but this depends on how early the breast cancer is detected before it can spread across your body.

When it comes to treating breast cancer, there are several options available which include:

  • Surgery: to remove the cancerous area.
  • Radiation therapy: using high-energy rays to target cancer cells.
  • Chemotherapy: using special medications to shrink or kill the cancer.
  • Hormone therapy: to block cancer cells from getting the hormones they need to grow.
  • Targeted therapy: drugs that target specific characteristics of cancer cells.
  • Immunotherapy: helping your immune system fight cancer.

You’ll work closely with your healthcare team to choose the best treatment for you, which might involve a combination of these methods. It’s also a good idea to talk with your team about what to expect before starting treatment, as this can help you prepare. Treatment approaches are classified as local or systemic, click next to learn more about this.
